What is Multi-Level Marketing?

Multi-Level Marketing is often called MLM or Network Marketing. Many companies that have great products to sell don't always have the finances to employ a large sales force or they believe that their product or service will sell better away from the traditional retail store approach. In fact this approach is becoming increasingly popular as the only way for new companies to take on huge multi-nationals. It is also a way to quickly spread a product or service far and wide.

There have been numerous successful Multi-Level Marketing companies. Called network marketing, because it establishes a network of customers who also become potential future sales reps. Not every customer will want to become associated with the business side of the product, but some will take advantage of the opportunity to earn extra cash.

Multi-Level Marketing is NOT pyramid marketing. Often people get this confused. They say pyramid marketing is illegal, its a scam, its unethical, which it is; but there is a distinct different between pyramid marketing and Multi-Level Marketing. Pyramid marketing requires each level to DOUBLE before a new level is created. Hence to grow a pyramid goes 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 -32, etc. It isn't long before this gets to impossible numbers hence why pyramid marketing is illegal - it isn't fair to people lower down in the levels and also unethical. Multi-Level Marketing is different in that people are reward more for their own efforts and each new growth of a level doesn't require a doubling. This doesn't mean that it isn't better to join early. In most Multi-Level Marketing Opportunities joining earlier is better because you have less competitors and more potential for explosive growth. However you also take the greater risks - the risk the company won't take off, the risk of starting a venture that it not well known and not tested in the marketplace. The risk that you have joined a dud. For these reasons many people wait a couple of years to see if an Multi-Level Marketing opportunity can or will succeed and then join as it is less of a gamble. Also the company will have established a track record of how it treats its business partners and how reliable it is.

Multi-Level Marketing gives you the advantage of earning income many levels down, but each level doesn't have to double for it to work. In fact you might have someone high in the organization who only introduce one person, but a few levels down you might have a real go getter, hard worker, or marketing genius who introduces hundreds. Thus MLM unlike pyramid marketing can follow a very different structure, with some parts of the network being large and others not so large. This tends to represent a fairer outcome which is more likely to reflect individual efforts.

However a Multi-Level Marketing opportunity, particularly which goes several levels down can maximize your ability to grow quickly. This is because as soon as you introduce one person you effectively double your efforts (unless the just want to use the product or service). It also encourages those higher in the organization who have been successful to share their knowledge with those below them as it will mean greater profits for them if they help those new to the organization.

Multi-Level Marketing ventures can present some of the best opportunities for the average person to acquire wealth. To be successful make sure you pick one with great rewards, a great product or service and a product or service you will use yourself.
