What Are You Waiting For; A Second Lifetime?
Procrastination is a human condition. We all have it to some degree. Often its associated with a bad experience. We hate going to the doctor because we remember how awful they were to us and all that wasted time in the waiting room. Therefore, when we feel ill, we put off calling them to the last possible moment. This is true about doing an unpleasant chore or spending money on something we feel not worthwhile. We would rather not have to face that reality than commit. It spans a wide variety of choices within our world. It can be a relationship, a job, or a promise we dont want to make. Having to move forward means consequences, and who needs that?
The harsh fact is that we all do. Look at your present life. Are you completely happy? If not, what would make you happier? A friend or a spouse? A house, new car, a better job, or a vacation? How old are you now? Will you be any younger a week, a month, or a year from now? If you desire a better or more enjoyable life, what are you doing right this moment to achieve that goal? If you answered nothing, than thats exactly what you will receive. Its a rare event when something totally unexpected will happen to bring you toward your objective. Buying those lottery tickets is a terrible way to become a millionaire.
If you hate to do much of anything to improve your situation, consider this. Unless you know something that the rest of us dont, this lifetime is your only shot at happiness. So you have to take charge of your condition on your own. Waiting is not an option. Perhaps you are nodding your head in agreement, but you dont know where to begin in this quest for self-improvement, what then? I understand that recreating yourself is a daunting challenge. But it can be done if you dont get overwhelmed by the task.
Instead, take small steps toward your future. So, you want a girlfriend or spouse. Are you dating or even seriously looking? Have you gone online and joined a dating service? Are you socially involved, say in church? How can you meet someone if youre not out there? Regardless, starting doing something to make that happen. Or perhaps you need more money. Increasing your income can take several paths. You can start saving small amounts to invest or change your job. Want to lose weight? Stop eating that loaded cheeseburger today and starting walking every day.
The point is that you must put off putting off the problem. Life is passing you by. No one said it would be easy. But a second lifetime is not an option. Make the most of the one you have now. Youve been given the gift of life for a reason and dont squander it by being the least you can. That is an insult to humanity. Rise above the average and make a difference. Now the ball is in your court and you alone get to score the winning basket.
