Searching for Student Loans For People With Bad Credit

September 17, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

Unbeknownst to many, there are student loans for people with bad credit. These student loans do not look at the existing credit of the borrower. Thus, having bad credit is not an issue. These types of loans include Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans and other alternative non-credit based loans.

Stafford loan is a not just a loan for eligible students in institutions of the United States but they are also student loans for people with bad credit. In 1988, it was named after Senator Robert Stafford of Vermont for his works in higher education. Stafford loans are guaranteed by the United States government. These loans have a much lower interest rate than one would get when applying for a private loan. Although they come with lower interest rates, there are strict eligibility requirements and borrowing limits.

Perkins Loans is named after Carl Perkins who is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Kentucky. Perkins loans are need-based student loans for people with poor or bad credit. They carry a fixed interest rate of 5% for a ten-year repayment duration period. It also has a 9-month grace period which means that the borrower can wait and make their first payment on the tenth months after graduation.

There are also alternative non-credit based loans like Loans for Disadvantaged Students, Nursing Student Loan Program and Primary Care Loan Program. These are student loans for people with poor credit and are available for students who are enrolling or are currently enrolled in the field of health sciences such as medicine and nursing. The Loans for Disadvantaged Students is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Nursing Student Loan Program provides up to $4000 per school year to qualified nursing students. It has nine months grace period. Primary Care Loan Program is available to those whose focus is on primary care. It has a grace period of 12 months. However, the recipient of the loan must remain practicing primary care for the duration of the loan repayment.

There are lots student loans for people with bad credit so do not lose the hope of getting a college degree. A bad credit rating need not hinder you in pursuing a degree. As you can see a bad credit rating is no excuse for not attending college. Just apply for the loan and get going. You should have no problem paying off your student loans if you have a college degree and a good career.

Consolidate Your Student Loan and Reduce Your Debt

September 17, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

Recently a friend graduated from law school after 4 years of hard work. It did not take him long to find employment with the local States Attorneys Office. It is a good entry level job and he was thrilled to get it. After about 3 weeks on the job he started getting letters from the various banks that were holding his student loans informing him it was time to start making payments.

The four loan packages he had used to get his law doctorate amounted to a little more than $130,000.00. Each loan package had a different payment date and each had a different interest rate. Two were 15 year loans and two were 10 years. It was not long before the enormity of his student loan debt hit home. He was worried that he might miss a payment and truly wished the payment date was the same for each loan.

When he went to the local car dealership to purchase a good used car he was surprised to find that his credit score was too low to normal interest car loan. The four student loans combined to lower his credit score to 610. He would only qualify for the high interest High risk loan. He also had no choice but to pass on his vehicle purchase. He like many college students do not realize the impact of several loans and a limited employment record could have on a credit score.

When payday came he also found that the monthly loan payments equaled approximately one half of his monthly income. He immediately began searching for the best student loan consolidation advice available. There are many student loan packages that will allow graduate, medical and law students that would allow him to combine his loans Many financil insttitutions have government stundent loans consolidation packages avaiable. He quickly found that by doing a student loan consolidation he could reduce his total monthly payments by 1/3 and was even able to lower his interest rate. He used a Great lakes student loan package to completed his loan consolidation. The application process was relatively trouble free and it was approved in less than a week.

In consolidating his student loans his credit score slowly started to rise and after one year he was able to qualify for most consumer loans. He also was able to apply for and receive an automobile loan at a competitive rate.

Every student should give priority to consolidating their student loans. It is the best way to save a significant amount of money. It is also one of the best ways to improve your credit score.

College Education - Scholarship Grants or Financial Aid

September 15, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

For some, going to college means spending lots and lots of money. And why is that? Mostly it is because of the high cost of college education and tuition fee, not to mention the everyday expenditures (food, transportation, board and lodging, pocket money, etc.) that the student must bear and the numerous miscellaneous fees that are accumulated. This is one of the major problems of todays parents.

Lets face it, college education is very expensive. Thats a fact. That is why it is very important for a parent to plan ahead their childrens education. Even those who are in the upper class of society are having difficult times once they sent their kids to college. That is why every parent these days are looking for college scholarship or college financial aid.

A college funding and scholarship program does not oblige students or the parent to reimbursement what was spent for the education of the student. There are two possible types of college funding and scholarship. The first type is based on the need, this type of funding and scholarship is granted to a student wherein the student and its family (as a whole) are unable to pay for the education. The second type is based on merit. This type of funding and scholarship is given to those students who excel in a certain field, for example are sport athletes. Also, student who excel in the academic field also fall under this type of college funding and scholarship.

There are also some instances wherein the two types of funding and scholarship are combined to make the financial aid process easier. Lots of parents and students are looking for this type of financial aid. Unfortunately, there are not enough college funding and scholarships these days to compensate the increasing number of students yearly.

There are some federal and state scholarship programs these days that a qualified student can avail. Below are just some of the federal and state scholarship programs that a student can apply.

Federal or National Pell Grants this nationally funded program is aimed to provide assistance to qualified undergraduates that want to purse post secondary education. This type of financial aid is given to individuals who have not completed a baccalaureate degree. This type of financial aid provides students to avail subsequent financial assistance from the national government.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) a program that is intended for continuing undergraduate students that has unresolved financial need. Unfortunately, this type of financial assistance is limited and not all students can avail this type of financial assistance. These are only awarded to students who are qualified and this also depends on the availability of the finances of the concerned educational institution.

Another type of financial assistance that a student or a parent can obtain is through loans. However this type of financial aid must be paid back. However, the financial need of the student or students family must greatly be considered first before availing this type of financial assistance to prevent high interest rates.

Always bear in mind that college education grants and scholarships, funding and other types of financial assistances are very complicated and quite frustrating. Fortunately, college education is an excellent type of investment.

Bad Credit Student Loans - Easy Finance For Growth And Education

September 14, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

Bad credit is more often than not a problem for all finance-seekers who need money to fulfill their needs. But when the question of education arises, the concept totally changes and it is easy to obtain finances even inspite of bad credit. Bad credit student loans cater to all the needs that these borrowers students have.

The borrowers can take up these loans for their needs which arise when they decide to take up higher education. The needs that can arise for the students are tuition fee, boarding and lodging, examination fee, laboratory fee, stationary expenses, buying a computer etc. All these needs are important to be fulfilled and this can be easily done through the student loans which are approved inspite of bad credit.

These loans are unsecured by nature and do not require any assets to be pledged with the lender for the money. This helps the students in getting the money as all students may not have assets in their name that they can pledge. The borrower can take up all the money that he requires for his education.

These loans have a very special feature attached to them. The repayment of the loan amount has to be done only after the student has completed his education and has got a full time employment. The rate of interest for bad credit borrowers is usually higher but with these loans, the borrowers are charged lower rates as the purpose of these loans helps in the growth of the country as well.

To get low rate deals for these loans, the borrowers can take up a research through the online mode. This will help them compare the deals that are offered to them and they are able to judge the rates and the terms available to them. Also there are counselors present in universities that help the students by providing them knowledge about these loan deals.

Through bad credit student loans, the borrowers can obtain the money that can help them make their future good without much burden on them as well.

Success at College Beckons for Parents Who Prepare the Way

September 14, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

Students largely are responsible for their own success at college, whether that means getting a 4.0 GPA, being involved in student government, or learning the skill set that will enable them to land a decent paying job upon graduation.

However, many do not consider all the hard work and years of preparation that parents contribute prior to the college admission application process. According to NextStudent, a leading Phoenix-based education funding company, the earlier parents start planning for their childs education and the more prepared they are for that event, the more successful they may be in helping their child attain the dream of a college education.

Be Informed: Apply for Aid Early

Many parents already are familiar with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form that must be completed each year in order to receive federal government aid. Some even may be aware that the deadline to receive funds for the next school year is the end of June. What most may not understand is that they may submit their application as early as Jan. 2 of that same year.

Other parents may be under the mistaken notion that they have to wait until after they file their taxes to submit their FAFSA. That is an erroneous assumption that could prove costly when it comes to getting the funds needed for school. Students and their parents simply may ESTIMATE their income on the FAFSA, and if they apply online they only need to update that figure on the governments FAFSA Web site.

Abundant Resources Available

In addition to applying early for aid, there are many other resources that parents may use to save for school or maximize their college-related expenditures.

One of the most profitable ideas, especially if your child is a college-bound high school student, is to research and apply early for FREE scholarships and grants. Students may want to contact their colleges financial aid office for assistance here, or use one of the many online scholarship search engines. The NextStudent Scholarship Search Engine has over 42,000 college funding sources comprised of more than 2.4 million individually awarded scholarships valued at over $3.4 billion.

Take Advantage of Tax Credits and Tax Advantaged Savings Plans

Uncle Sam is eager to help students and their parents cover the costs of a college education. Tax credits such as the Hope Credit enable parents to offset the cost of certain college education expenses by allowing them to deduct up to a specific amount for their federal income tax return. For more details, please visit the IRS Web site at: irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=121452,00.html.

Maybe your child is not even in junior high school yet. If that is the case, you still have time to accumulate substantial savings beforehand. To help you do it, the federal government set up something called 529 Plans. This program allows parents to save funds in a tax-advantaged plan with the option of engaging in either a prepaid tuition arrangement or setting aside savings for college. To find out more, visit sec.gov/investor/pubs/intro529.htm.

Getting A Hispanic College Scholarship

September 14, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

While trying to get a college education, you may find that you are going to need more help than you are eligible for with financial aid. The good thing is there are many companies and organizations that understand that need and help by giving scholarships. There are many scholarships available and if you are Hispanic, there are many that offer Hispanic scholarships.

Many companies offer scholarships for different reasons. Some are hoping to gain your loyalty and have a future employee in the making. Some of the high tech fields are hoping to \”lock up\” the best and the brightest students in specific areas of expertise. Many hope to promote diversity in the student bodies through out the country. Whatever their reasoning, there are many Hispanic scholarships out there for the taking.

Some of them require that you are an incoming freshman. Here are a few that you can apply for:

There are many scholarships available from the Hispanic College Fund organization. For every available scholarship, you must be of Hispanic heritage, have a 3.0 to a 4.0 GPA (grade point average), be a permanent legal residence, and planning to register as a full time student. You can apply for their general scholarship fund. Although they have no major requirement; you must just demonstrate your financial need. They offer $500 to $5,000 per scholarship.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers a scholarship from Camino al Exito Program. To qualify for the scholarship, you must be of Hispanic heritage. You must also be a citizen of the United States or have a permanent residence card or a passport that is stamped I-551 and does not expire. They offer help ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. You must be scheduled to graduate high school and have between a 3.0 and 4.0 verifiable GPA, (Grade Point Average) and you must apply for financial aid and have documentation to verify that application.

If you are currently a college student and need additional financial help, you can still find many Hispanic scholarships. In fact, a lot of companies prefer to invest in students that have proven that they can withstand the pressure and demands of college life. Here are a few companies that offer continuous educational help:

When trying to further your education in the media related careers, you can apply for the McNamara Family Foundation scholarship. Not only do you need to be Hispanic, but you also must be currently enrolled as a full time student in the creative arts field. The scholarships will range from $5,000 to $20,000 per individual student. You must have a GPA of 3.0 to 4.0. You must have successfully completed 12 undergraduate credits from an accredited American college or university.

Costco also offers a Hispanic scholarship for students that are getting a degree in Pharmacy. You must have finished one year of pharmacy school or beginning your sophomore year as a pharmacy major. Individual scholarship, are for $9,500 but you must sign an agreement to work at Costco for at least one year and they will also contribute $500 towards your exam fees and licensing. Your GPA needs to be 3.0 or higher. Proof must be submitted to demonstrate your need for financial help.

No matter what your particular field of interest or the amount of help that you need, there are lots of Hispanic scholarships available. Just read the submission process very carefully. There are a lot of different deadlines and documentation required, so make sure you follow them carefully.

Why Save For College?

September 14, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

As a parent, it weighs on your mind what will happen when free education calls it quits. What will you do to pay for your child’s college tuition? It is stressful and worrisome for just about any parent that has dreams of their child going off to college to become a doctor…a lawyer or something else. Saving for college is a big decision and it is something that we must take into consideration.

My Child Will Get A Scholarship

Many parents think that a scholarship is the best way for them to pay for their child’s education. Today, there are all types of scholarships available ranging from local scholarships to the school’s themselves taking on the child without any cost to you. The problem is that although this number of programs has gotten higher, so has the number of students that are now enrolled in college. That means that there is still only a small portion of students getting a “free ride” through school. Even if your child does get a scholarship, it probably will not cover the total cost of their education and needs.

The next thing to consider, then, is the cost of sending them to school. There is no doubt that this price tag will continue to grow and that means an increased number of students that need to find the funds somewhere. Most students that do not have funding for their education through their parents will get student loans and grants to help subsidize their costs. While this is a choice for most students, it is one that comes with a finance charge at the same time. That means that your child’s graduation always comes with a price tag that puts them in debt right off the bat.

If it sounds frustrating and stressful, you are not alone. The process of sending your student to school is one that is likely to cost you a decent amount of money. Yet, funding it is something that all parents have to think about in some way. Saving for college may be something that you have to do. If it is, there are programs and services that can help you to make that happen. The longer that you wait, though, the more costly it will become to you.

Can Student Loans be Negotiated?

September 12, 2008 By: admin Category: Education Financial Aid Comments Off

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: Student loans are secured loans that are supported by the federal government. In short, this gives lenders more tactics to collect funds and debtors less options to avoid them. The government is able to garnish wages without obtaining a legal judgment; it can withhold tax refunds, social security benefits, and other government aid; but most importantly, it makes these loans very difficult, if not close to impossible to have discharged through a bankruptcy. All of these factors make it very unnecessary for creditors to negotiate any settlement with these accounts.

Although I have seen some claims on the internet of student loans being successfully negotiated, I have yet to find any conclusive evidence. Additionally, I have not been able to find any type of negotiation company that will handle these types of loans. (This is not to say that one does not exist, it is just that I have yet to come across one) In fact, most major negotiation companies specifically point out that they can not accept student loans into a settlement program. This for me strongly supports the conclusion that these types of loans are very difficult to negotiate. After all, if there were a way to make money negotiating these accounts, there would already be 50-100 companies offering the service via internet.

On a side note, if student loans are indeed negotiable, due to the secured nature of the loans, collection companies at most would be willing to negotiate penalties and some interest, but the full balance with a good amount of interest would have to be paid.

I believe that the best option for dealing with extensive student loans is by consolidating. Loans can be extended for periods of 15 years or more, and by consolidating you can save around one percent on the interest rate. I would recommend speaking to a professional regarding your specific situation to see what kind of payment plan they can help you set up. Just like taxes, if not paid, student loans can haunt you for the rest of your life, so I believe the best thing you can do is begin to pay off those loans as soon as possible.
