Leeds - Bradford Airport Discounted Airport Parking Prices

October 18, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

You can find Leeds-Bradford Airport (LBA) about 8 miles (13kms) northwest of Leeds and approximately 7 miles (11kms) north of Bradford. The sole terminal facility runs direct flights all over Britain and Europe as well as linking long-distance flights through London Heathrow, Paris and Amsterdam. The only terminal at Leeds-Bradford International Airport handles arrivals and departures. In the principal you can find the check-in area. The airport is ecellently connected to local roads and motorways and is clearly signposted on a number of regional routes.

I just got retired but when I was still working I used the airport dozens of times for business and pleasure trips to domestic as well as several European destinations. I had the option to check out every available car park at the airport complex. My friends and acquaintances always ask my advice regarding the various parking services as they know that by now Im an expert on the subject. Usually I went away for a day or three and the short-term parking was the best choice for me. However, I also used the airport (and still do) the airport for my long family holidays. I think I used all the different methods of parking by now. The majority of the available parking companies provide similar levels of services with adequate security measures and friendly and professional staff.

The Secured Car Park Award was won by the two facilities providing short- and long stay parking at Leeds-Bradford airport. Short-term car park spaces are situated within just a short walk from the terminal building. This facility is most convenient for picking up and dropping off persons. For those wishing to park for just a couple of hours, this facility provides the best option. You do not have to pay a fee for the first 30 minutes.

When you need to park your car at the long-term car park you will be transferred to the terminal building. The coach which operates the transfer service departs every 10 minutes and is every day of the week available from 06:00 to 22:00. You have the option to pay for the parking service when you return from your trip at a pay station. Several of these pay stations can be found in the arrivals hall. After paying the price a validated exit card will be given to you. There is a minimum duration of five days. Drivers who book their car park space at the long-stay parking lot ahead of time can enjoy the special cheaper parking rates.

In Yeadon approximately one mile (1.6kms) from Leeds airport you can find the off-site amenity which is operated by Sentinel Security Car Park. They offer reasonably priced parking with a straightforward check in procedure. The trip between the parking site and the terminal building has a five-minute travel time. AGS offer the same kind of services. However, their parking facility is located a little bit farther away from the airport terminal.

If you rather not wish to shop around at the airport for car parking prices and info about the various parking options I strongly advice you secure your parking space before you arrive at the airport which easily can be done in advance online. It will save you a couple of pounds and is significantly less time consuming. All experienced fliers know that parking rates are quite pricey and therefore a discounted fee is most enjoyable. Also pre-booking through the internet is secure, fast, efficient, reliable and easy. For your benefit I will mention some of the better websites which offer the best deals on airport car parking at Leeds-Bradford International Airport.

Parking at San Diego International Airport

October 18, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is one of the USAs major airports. The airport estimates that in 2005, more than 17 million passengers made their way through San Diego International, and on any given day, an average of 40,000 passengers arrive or depart. With that many people coming & going, parking for long term trips is at a premium.

The airport itself runs three separate parking lots, two lots on North Harbor Drive and one on Pacific Highway. There are approximately 3,200 spaces available at these three lots and the price per day ranges from $10 - $12 per day. All locations offer free shuttle service and safety measures like security gates, lighting and personnel have been implemented.

During the busy traveling seasons like the summer months & Christmas, finding a parking space at SAN could be difficult. Private operators around SAN offer off-site airport parking to eliminate the hassle of finding a space. These off-site facilities often offer rate at or below those charged at SAN.

The San Diego Airport Parking Company is one privately run airport facility only 7 minutes from SAN. This operator has rates lower than that of the long term parking lots located at SAN and offers other services while your away. These services include Oil changes, auto detailing, and car washes.

Another privately owned parking facility is Park N Fly. This lot is located on Kettner, only minutes from the main terminals of SAN. Like the San Diego Airport Parking Company, Park N Fly offers free airport shuttles to & from the airport. Park N Fly has the benefit of covered parking spaces in addition to standard economy parking. Valet service is also available.

Finally, Park Shuttle & Fly offers off-site airport parking for travelers of San Diego International. Located on Lee Court right next door to San Diego International airport, Park Shuttle & Fly lets you get in, get parked, and get on your way. With rates starting at $10 a day, it is one of the more affordable parking facilities serving SAN.

As you can see, there are numerous parking options for San Diego International. Its needed given the high volume of travelers making their way through this busy Southern California airport.

5 Types of Remote Control Helicopter

October 18, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

If you are thinking of what particular remote control helicopter to buy, then this article should help.

Here are the different types of remote control helicopter:

Gas remote control helicopter If you are thinking of flying a helicopter that somehow close to flying a real helicopter, then the gas remote control helicopter is for you. Made with an engine and powered by gas, this helicopter is the most advanced remote control helicopter to buy. Gas remote control helicopter does not come cheap with engine and more complicated moving parts. Gas remote control helicopter is for advanced rc pilot.

Electric remote control helicopter Early electric remote control helicopters released are expensive but later models are more affordable. This makes electric remote control helicopters more popular than any type of remote control helicopters in the market. It is easy to fly. It creates no noise and smell not like the gas remote control helicopter. It is powered by a rechargeable battery. The electric remote control helicopter is suitable for beginners.

Mini remote control helicopter Also powered by battery, this type of remote control helicopter is similar to the electric rc helicopter. In fact, it is hard to define if the electric remote control helicopter falls on the category of a mini. But to be safe about it, you can say that it is mini if you can fly it on your living room without imposing danger on your furniture.

Mini remote control helicopter is fun to fly although controlling it on air might be a little complicated at first. But once you get the hang of it, maneuvers and landings are easy. It is also far more affordable than the two mentioned types of remote control helicopter.

Micro remote control helicopter If you have seen micro rc car, micro rc boat, and micro rc plane, then you should not be surprised if you see micro remote control helicopter. This tiny piece of aircraft can stretch up to 8 inches. But, you cannot consider it a toy. It has standard features similar to that of a standard remote control helicopter. It is so tiny that makes it look so delicate but in face, materials used such as titanium and carbon is strong.

Toy remote control helicopter If you want an affordable remote control helicopter, then this one is for you. Only remember that to fly this type of remote control helicopter requires a lot of practice.

Cactus Fly-In, Casa Grande AZ

October 17, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

Every year in Arizona is the Cactus Fly-in which is one of the largest events in the city of Casa Grande AZ air show and fly-in, which is always well attended and a huge success. The event seems to be growing every year, much busier this year than last year even though general aviation has suffered due to 9-11. It is events like this that help us promote our general aviation business sector in the United States.

http://www.cactusflyin.org

The weather was great this year, not too hot and no rain. We are seeing a recovery in general aviation after many companies, especially FBO at smaller airports were forced out of business. Sure many of these services will be replaced, but the all in one type aviation services business will be tough, airport flight schools may opt out of other type services and concentrate on what they are good at and what is most profitable. We may see less bundling of services due to costs and outsourcing of other services such as aircraft washing which requires an extra lineman to do washing services on call.

There will be other small businesses fulfilling these niches thus a cost savings to the FBO (Fixed Based Operator). In airport business magazine in Feb there was an article discussing the plight of the FBO. Those FBOs still in business will need to hire niche companies so they can continue to bundle services for aircraft owners and chief pilots of corporate aircrafts and collect a small fee for finding these other smaller companies additional work.

In many cases such a strategy can save the FBO in increasing insurance costs. Let us take aircraft washing for instance by hiring an aircraft washing service, as it saves them on their insurance policies, whose agents typically would rather not attach a rider policy for aircraft washing since most underwriters are against washing due to problems associated with water entering fuel tanks accidentally or water freezing pitot tubes or static ports. Also common are electrical problems or avionics failures due to water entering where it shouldnt causing or attributing to a crash. Although there have not been too many NTSB findings where washing procedures cashed a crash, several have attributed to the comedy of errors usually associated with crashes, a multiplying of problems which eventually causes a crash. A separate company specializing in aircraft washing will have its own washing procedures and can help aviation safety with regards to washing.

The FBOs are adjusting their strategic marketing plans to meet the financial challenges in general aviation. Fly-ins and air shows like the Cactus Fly-In is a way all of us can show our support for our general aviation business sector. Think on it.

The Hidden Cost of Booking Flights Online

October 17, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

More and more air tickets are sold on the Internet, either direct by the airlines or through agents, and the issue of what is, and is not, included in the lead-in price has become very serious. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to book your 240 return fare to New York and discovering only when you have reached the final booking stage that there are several extras to pay. It makes comparison-shopping impossible because you simply do not know whether one of the other sites you considered would have worked out cheaper because their prices included more. One lady complained to us about Opodo and its complicated raft of extra charges. It is unfortunate that, when Opodo started, its prices were all-inclusive, but it has been forced to adopt the tactics of some other agents to makes its prices appear to be competitive!

For both the consumer and the more honest agents it is a lose-lose situation when there are no clear rules about how prices must be displayed. ABTA has also entered the argument because its code of conduct insists that High Street agents included all mandatory extras. In other words, it does not matter if the price of the ticket to Barcelona is just 30, the price quoted should include all charges that will actually enable the traveller to fly to Barcelona.

A memo has now been issued by the Trading Standards Institute, the Office of Fair Trading and the Advertising Standards Authority laying down the guidelines for how prices should be displayed on the web. The weakness of this is that it is basically advice to all parties and not set in stone. If a complaint is made against a company, it might be weeks before the case is considered, and then the company might get away with only a slapped wrist. The concept of including all mandatory charges in the up-front price is good, but it is not quite as clear-cut as it might appear, and the document produced appears rather vague on some issues. Here are some points to watch out for: Of course, prices should be quoted with all taxes and charges included.

However, some very honest companies currently quote approximate prices and calculate the overseas tax element on the day of purchase at the current exchange rate. This is definitely the best method, and we would much rather pay 346.24 for a ticket to New York than 347. Some agents currently round up all their fares to protect themselves. It is not always possible to quote fares with all taxes included, since they can change with the route taken. A good example is a round-the-world ticket that might cost 950 basic but have an extra 150 to 200 added depending on the number of stops and the airports involved. In these instances an approximate additional figure is surely fair for all concerned. Booking fees or transaction charges must be included in the quoted fare.

Do you go into a supermarket and expect them to make an additional charge for their profit margin when you reach the till? From what we can understand there is nothing to stop a website showing any, or all, of these items individually. In fact, in some cases, it might make it easier if this is done. However, the full total must be clearly displayed.

The various authorities involved in the publication of this memo are not going to police websites themselves. They will only act on complaints received; so, if you have a problem, by all means contact your local Trading Standards officers or the Advertising Standards Authority. It could take a very long time for everyone to conform. Until then, we hope that the items we have listed above will act as a warning of what to look out for.

Pre-existing medical conditions We regularly warn about this blanket exclusion imposed by most travel insurers. You also need to remember that the exclusion applies not just to you but also to any close relative whose illness forces you to cancel a trip. In other words, the death, or serious illness of an aged parent could mean you have to cancel your holiday, and so, since this is likely to be as a result of a pre-existing condition, you might not be able to claim.

Most companies are prepared to discuss giving cover for someone with a pre-existing condition. In some cases, they will give cover without any extra charge; having said this, when they do charge extra, it is difficult to compare prices. Companies have their own independent scales of charges, and there is no way of telling in advance who will be the cheapest. However, they also differ in the way they word their exclusion and how they interpret it. Be warned.

7 Ways to Get the Best Deals on Airline Tickets

October 16, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

How is it possible that one passenger pays $350 for an airline ticket when another passenger pays almost $900 for the seat right next to him?

Its all about taking your time and doing your homework before you travel.

Here are 7 tips to help you find the lowest airfares.

  1. Book early. Reserve your seats as soon as you know where you want to go and when. Bookings made 3 weeks in advance of departure dates are often eligible for discounts. Having said that, you can also
  2. Book Last Minute. Are you footloose and fancy free? Then keep your eyes open for the really great last minute deals available through sites like LastMinute.com. These are often the best travel bargains as airlines and hotels are trying to liquidate unsold space.
  3. Stay the Weekend. Return trips that include a Saturday night stay are often less expensive.
  4. Compare Prices Online. Check fare prices at Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity make note of flights and prices, but dont book your flights just yet!
  5. Call the Airline. I occasionally save between 20 and 100 bucks by calling the airline with the same flights I found online.
  6. Travel Off-Season. Ed and I travelled to South America just before their peak season and it was our best trip ever. Instead of suffering on tour buses that were full to overflowing, we enjoyed the luxury of private tours - for less than it would have cost us 2 weeks later in the season.
  7. Split Segments.

Rather than book a hefty multi-trip ticket, consider booking 2 or more tickets. For example, we fly from Vancouver to Hong Kong or Singapore and then pick up an Asia pass for getting to Kuala Lumpur, Borneo, Bangkok etc.Take the time to research your options and then you can use what you save on some incredible sightseeing trips when you are at your destination.

A380 Bathrooms

October 16, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

Bathroom seat with a view; Thats right! The all-new A-380 is trying to make air-travel fun again, with a bathroom with a view. But Airbus is not the only commercial aircraft company, which has their shit together. Boeing is also planning as a standard feature on its 787 airliners to have a window in the laboratories. Will this get more air travelers out of their SUVs and into airliners for those 350 plus mile journeys? Some industry analysts think it just might be the ticket the market sector needs.

The Airbus A-380, which will be the largest commercial airliner in the world; will also have a stand up bar, not in thunderstorms. It will have on board showers, duty free shops and scenery. Yes, scenery; flat panel display scenes like waterfalls and such. Internet access, on-board messaging service, fax service; you name it, you got it at flight level 4 Zero. (40,000 feet above sea level).

The Boeing 787 will have humidified air, so no more dry eyes during flights and because of its stronger composite cabin, it will leave the cabin pressure at 6,000 feet instead of 8,000 or 10,000 feet, meaning it is safer on the bio-system with more oxygen. Ready to get out of the driver seat yet and into a futuristic amenity rich modern jet airliner? The major commercial jet manufacturers and airlines are betting that you will. Both Airbus and Boeing have seen record orders for their latest model jets. Think on this.

Minute Men Jet Fighters Needed Again

October 16, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

During the cold war we had jet fighters which were called minute men which could go from starting the engine to 10,000 feet is right around six minutes. This protected our coastlines incase of attack from incoming Russian Long Range Bombers or ICBM missiles. This made sense at the time because the threat was to be taken seriously and because if a Russian Bomber got thru then they could deliver multiple nuclear weapons to our major cities.

Having the ability to scramble interceptor fighters to defend our nation in the future will be paramount. Today with Stealth Technology, ground terrain following capabilities and new aircraft, missiles and UAVs on the horizon which may be able to reach speeds of 7,000 to 10,000 miles per hour we are going to need a much faster time frame to protect the American People from a technologically advanced aggressor.

We are going to need to cut down the time to go from parked and turned off to 10,000, 20,000 or even fifty thousand feet. This is not an easy task considering it takes time to start an aircraft, warm it up, taxi to the run way, roll down that runway, take up and then climb to altitude. Even an aircraft which climbs at 20,000 feet per minute still has to get airborne you see?

We need a jet fighter which can go from turned off to 10,000 to 30,000 feet in three minutes flat, from parked and turned off. If we have too, we need to use UAVs and launch them from catapults with rocket assist, but we are going to need these capabilities in the future as the enemys technology tracks our technology into the future. Think on this in 2006.

Possible Aviation Topics for a Think Tank

October 15, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

We often here about Think Tanks in the news, but what do they really do? What problems do they solve and what do they think about? Well, as a coordinator for the Online Think Tank you would be surprised at all the topics and the sub-topics are also incredible as well.

Not long ago we were contacted by a lady with a degree in aviation safety and she wondered if she qualified for the Online Think Tank. Indeed, aviation safety is very important and we have the safest skies anywhere in the world now. Aviation Safety has never been better, but that is no reason to stop there, as there can always be improvement.

A Degree in Aviation Sciences, Aerodynamics, Aviation Safety or Other Experience

Many people graduate from high-tech colleges that offer Aviation Degrees and some also attend the famous Embry Riddle Aviation colleges. Aviation Sciences are cool and I am a pilot and study such things as well and I can tell you that those with a knowledge in aviation can bring a lot to the table in a Think Tank.

If you are interested in joining a Think Tank and participating in Aviation Topics and you have a degree in aviation, are a pilot or simply love aircraft, then perhaps you might consider joining a Think Tank that specializes in aviation endeavors? Ask yourself; What sort of work do I do now in the aviation sector.

Types of Aviation Topics Discussed in Think Tanks

  • The airport expansion needed to support the A380
  • MAVs of the Future, sensors
  • Commercial Use of UAVs
  • DHS, Military Use of UAVs
  • Aerodynamics, efficiencies, new designs
  • NASA SATS program
  • Privatization of Space and Space Ports
  • Anti-Terrorist technologies
  • Airports of the Future
  • Carbon Nano-Tube Construction in Aviation
  • Cargo Aircraft - increasing efficiency
  • Runway Safety - debris, incursions
  • Rotorcraft - efficiencies, design, aerodynamics
  • Hypersonic - propulsion theories
  • Aerospace Design
  • Transitional Flight Aircraft
  • FAA - shortages of workers, systems, etc.

What are your interests in aviation? What other interests do you have? Are there any things you wish to fix in the world? Do you have any original thoughts or concepts on technology, philanthropy, world issues? What are you interests? Adding aviation to the mix can really increase the intellectual strength of a Think Tank, as they are always looking for intelligent people to help change the World.

Safety Airplane - Official Rating Of Indonesia Airline Companies

October 15, 2008 By: admin Category: Aviation Comments Off

Airplane is known as one of the safest transport system on earth, but still many people are scare of taking flight today. If your hands are sweating or your heart beating faster just before take off or landing, you are probably one of this people. Depend where you are traveling this feelings can become more intense, especially if you have heard about the numerous tragic accident that the concerned region has been involved in.

The purpose of this article is not to make you more afraid of taking the plane, but just to inform you about the reality. And may be help you take the right decision when purchasing your flight ticket. Even a 100% way to travel safety doesnt exist yet and will probably never do; we all want to put the balance in our favor. In some countries minimum precaution and full information seems to be required.

I love Indonesia. It is a wonderful country with more than ten thousand tropical islands, thousands of dialects and hundreds of interesting cultures. White sand and paradisiacal beaches, impenetrable rainforest and archipelago of active volcanoes make this territory one of the most wonderful countries in the world for backpackers. The wild life inside the sea as on the land are incredibly diversified and Indonesia count hundreds, if not thousands of species you wont find anywhere else. Additionally, Indonesia has rich natural resources which provide food and premium material for this over populated country (more than 200 millions people).

What relation with airplane? I believe many people are reluctant to travel around Indonesia since the recent event. Or should I say events (with an s). Indeed, the last few years have been catastrophic in terms of Airplane Crash. Unfortunately, this wonderful country is governed by a vast majority of corrupted politician who have much better to do than controlling the airplane regulation. So of course, the big competitions among Airlines Company push each of them to reduce the charges at any cost. And very often starting by reduce the maintenance frequency of their planes or the used of old spare parts, etc.. This can be scary, but it is the true.

Obviously, the Indonesian Transports Ministrys recently announced that they will probably drop three airlines to the lowest rating category. Those Airlines were Adam Air, Wings Air and Dirgantara Air. Basically, they separate the companies in three different category. The first category (category I) is considered as the fully compliant group. The companies in the last category (category III) will have three months to make improvement before having their licenses revoked. The middle category (category II) is for the companies which have met the minimal safety requirement but have not yet complied with a number of flight-related safety measures.

After checked the safety regulations of all the 20 passenger airlines, they come with the following results.

None of the airlines are completely complying with safety regulations. It means that none of the all Indonesia airlines companies are in the category I. The 13 companies in the category II are: Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air, Wings Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Mandala Airlines, Pelita Air Service, Riau Airlines, Trigana Air Service and Travel Express Aviation Service. These airlines fall short on a smaller number of safety requirements. And for the bottom category III, we have: Batavia, Adam Air, Kartika Airlines, Trans Wisata Air, Jatayu Airlines and cargo jetliners Tri MG Intra Asia Airlines and Manunggal Air Service.

Some of the company airlines in the middle category proclaim to have no idea of the kind of criteria the government is using to rate the airlines. I have to admit that transparency has never been the strong point of this government. Some airlines promised they will make improvements. At least, this result has boosted the debate and obviously should improve the situation in the future.

Personally, I believe AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia or Merpati to be some of the safest, despite the tragic events of Garuda Indonesia last month. For AirAsia, it is actually not a local company as they are based in Malaysia, but they provide at least fifteen destinations in Indonesia. And the have some of the cheapest airline tickets available in Asia.

I hope this article does not take away your curiosity for traveling in Indonesia. As an expatriate for seven years in Jakarta, I recommend you to consider this destination for your next trip. Indonesia is still one of the rare country in the world where you can find such diversity of culture and panorama in the same place. Just follow the above advice about aircraft safety and dont forget to check the article about Travel Insurance (see Blog : www.cheap-asia-travel.blogspot.com/). And everything should be fine. Good Luck and Nice Trip.
